Incorporated in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1947, Frisch’s® Big Boy® Restaurants holds the exclusive rights to open and sub-franchise “Big Boy” restaurants in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Florida, with one major ingredient change to the original Big Boy Sandwich. A specially formulated Tartar Sauce would be served on the Frisch’s Big Boy sandwich replacing Thousand-Island Dressing. The recipe was (and still is) unique to the Frisch’s franchise.
The Bennett footprint for success came naturally for Dave and Milt. While working for their father, Milton Bennett, Sr. at his Pak-A-Snak restaurant on Cherry St. in Toledo, that the brothers became inspired and encouraged to be a good company to work for, a good company to buy from, a good company to sell to, and a good neighbor to the community.
In 1955, brothers David and Milton Bennett, Jr. acquired the Frisch’s Big Boy franchise rights for NW Ohio and from their initial restaurant in the Country Charm Shopping Center in Perrysburg, Bennett Enterprises was born.
The novel concept of selling double-decked hamburgers through drive-in restaurants caught on quickly. Frisch’s Big Boy restaurants became the gathering place for carloads of hungry families: and for teens – who cruised the parking lot in their cars, circling the canopied curb service, as the place to be seen. Generations have grown up recognizing the statue of the chubby “Big Boy” in striped or checkered overalls with a slingshot in his hip pocket.
Sandwiches – the “Big Boy” in particular – still comprise a large percentage of daily sales followed by French Fries, hand-breaded Onion Rings, the Super Big Boy, Buddie Boy®, Swiss Miss®, hand-cut and hand-breaded Traditional Fish, the Brawny Lad®, rich Hot Fudge Cake (a half serving is available!), the Strawberry Piebaby® and our famous “Soup, Salad ‘n Fruit Bar”. All meals are served any time of day and may be served in the dining room or “to-go” via carryout or drive-thru windows.
Frisch’s Commissary located in Cincinnati manufactures much of the food for our restaurants, including hamburger patties, soups, salads and dressings including our famous tartar sauce, and homemade bakery products. The popularity of these items is due to timeless recipes, which represent the philosophy of Frisch’s: serve quality food in clean, pleasant surroundings, served by efficient personnel at a price value to the customer. We consider all of our employees to be our partners in the hospitality business.
By following these four basic concepts: (1) be a good company to work for, (2) be a good company to sell to, (3) be a good company to buy from, and (4) be a good neighbor to the community, Bennett Enterprises has become the largest restaurant and hotel owner/operator in this area.
Today, there are eleven Frisch's Big Boy's independently owned and operated by Bennett Enterprises.
